Arizona Photography Locations | Watson Lake, Prescott AZ

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

Watson Lake's huge granite boulders give this area an almost sci-fi type of feeling. The boulders lend for interesting compositions. This is any easy day trip from the Phoenix area, about a 2 hour drive, assuming no incidents on the I-17. The lake offers other activities such as boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, camping and birding. The Peavine hiking trails takes you on a level, easy path to the Granite Dells area. This is a fantastic spot to photograph during sunrise and sunset. If you are looking for some good food to eat or a cold drink, this lake is about 4 miles from downtown Prescott, best known for Whiskey Row. Whiskey Row has a large number of saloons on one street, that used to draw a variety of settlers, cowboys, prospectors, bawdy girls, gamblers, and outlaws. The courtyard plaza is still surrounded by many saloons, as well as boutiques, art galleries and more! During the summer Watson Lake park area is open from 7AM-10PM, and during the winter 7AM-sunset. There is a $3 parking fee and clean restrooms at the park. As always we want to remind you of the importance of respecting all these locations and wildlife. It's up to us as a community to set an example. If we don't clean up after ourselves or act disrespectful we are going to lose accessibility to so many places. Please do your best to leave no trace behind and respect each other as fellow photographers and explorers as we share these spaces.
